More than 1,500 people attended the inaugural Paddlepalooza on October 8, 2011 at Dallas White Park in North Port.

The event was designed to give the region an opportunity to experience North Port’s waterways through a variety of different paddle sports. Attendees were able to experience what is like to be inside a dragon boat, use a stand-up paddle board, and participate in open-class canoe and kayak races throughout the day. In addition, North Port became the first community in the region to have a Cayuco boat on its waterway.
The event was hosted by a number of community organizations, including Vision North Port, Benderson Development, the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce, the North Port Family YMCA, the City of North Port, and Sarasota County.
More than 100 volunteers helped make the day an extraordinary event in North Port.
