How to bring The Jackson Laboratory to Florida

The Jackson Laboratory - Florida is a true public/private partnership.  JAX, the University of South Florida, Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System, Sarasota County and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice are asking the state to provide $50 million in FY 2011-12, $30 million in FY 2012-13 and $20 million in FY 2013-14, with Sarasota County providing another $100 million through a voter-approved referendum.  JAX will raise the remaining 80%, or roughly $800 million, through philanthropy, grant revenues and a services business.

Before anything can happen, this needs to be approved by Governor Rick Scott and the Florida legislature.  With only one month left to the current session, this requires quick action by citizens interested in bringing this economic boon to Sarasota County and to North Port.
